The year 2023 has barely begun, yet one of the most well-known football players in recent memory has just finished his career. It talks about Gareth Bale, who shocked fans of the “king sport” with a heartfelt statement.
Following his participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the Wales team, where “El expreso de Cardiff” played three games and scored one goal, the former Real Madrid player announced in a statement that he is hanging up his chimpunes.
“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and international football. I feel incredibly lucky to have fulfilled my dream of participating in the sport that I love. It really has given me some of the best moments of my life. One of the best experiences for 17 seasons, which will be impossible to replicate, no matter what the next chapter of my life is”, was the beginning of the letter from the now former striker.
This fact did not go unnoticed by the clubs in which he played, as in the case of Real Madrid, who spoke on their official networks to recognize the great work he did at the ‘White House’.
“His figure will forever be linked to the history and legend of our club. Good luck, Gareth, and our best wishes to you and your family”, thanked the Spanish team.
Likewise, Los Angeles FC, the last club that the Welshman joined , spoke about it through its co-president and general director, John Thorrington.“He came here with the goal of winning championships and, as he has done everywhere throughout his career, he did.It was an honor to have one of the most talented, dynamic and exciting players of his generationfinishing his career with a title for LAFC”, declared the American manager.
Gareth made the decision to stop his distinguished sporting career at the age of 33. He had spent eight seasons as a defender with Real Madrid, where he scored in the 2013–2014 UEFA Champions League final against Atlético de Madrid.
The British superstar also left his impact on the Welsh national team, guiding them to their first World Cup qualification in 64 years and advancing them to the Euro 2016 semifinal.
Bale collected 22 championships during the course of his football career, including five Champions Leagues, three Spanish Leagues, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, one Copa del Rey, three Spanish Super Cups, one Carabao Cup, and a Major League Soccer championship.
This way,Bale says goodbye to professional football as the greatest Welsh representative in history, and it is not for less, after consecrating himself as the top scorer for his team with 40 goals.
