Shock in the boxing world over the death of Kenneth Egano, a 22-year-old Filipino boxer, who died last Wednesday after spending four days in the hospital, after fainting from multiple injuries while participating in an event organized by Manny Pacquiao.
Despite defeating Jason Facularin, also a Filipino, on May 6 in eight rounds, Egano passed out in his corner before the referee gave the final ruling, where he was put on an artificial respirator and was taken on a stretcher to Imus Doctors hospital. There he was placed in an induced coma after doctors discovered a brain hemorrhage that underwent surgery last Sunday. However, the young boxer passed away three days later.
The fight organized by the world champion was part of Blow by Blow, a series that is televised in the Philippines. Pacquiao had promised to pay the medical expenses of the hospitalization, although he has yet to comment after the sad news.
His rival that night, Jason Facularin, lamented the death of his colleague on his social networks: “I did not expect this to happen when we did our best. Why did it happen to us? I’m sorry it happened. I hope you’re in a good place.”
The agency in charge of the event, Games and Amusement Board , sent its condolences to the boxer’s family after his death through its networks. “The entire Games and Amusement Board (GAB) agency mourns the passing of professional boxer Kenneth Egano. Our condolences to Kenneth’s family, relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
