Pekalongan landslide death toll has reached 24, 2 people are being sought

A joint SAR team from the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the Emergency Task Force managed to evacuate two bodies from the rubble of a landslide in Petungkriyono district, Pekalongan province, Central Java, on Friday, January 24, 2025.
So far, 24 dead people have been evacuated. The other two are currently being searched for.
Danposal Pekalongan, First Lieutenant Mar Anjar N. Sulistiyono, led Lanal Tegal Disaster Response Team III to comb the landslide site buried under the rubble of the building.
At Kasimpar Hamlet, the team found the body of Aurel (14), which was successfully evacuated. However, another victim found at another location could not be removed as the team is still waiting for heavy equipment.

In addition to evacuation, the Indonesian Navy has prioritized the opening of access routes blocked by landslides to facilitate the process of logistical distribution and rescue of residents. To meet the basic needs of the affected population, the distribution of material and technical assistance to evacuation points continues.
“We are prioritising the safety of the trapped population and ensuring that logistical support reaches them in a timely manner,” First Lieutenant Anjar said in an official statement.
The joint team is currently searching for two victims of the landslide. As the weather is unpredictable, the team is working very carefully to avoid the risk of another avalanche.
It is known that from the afternoon of Monday, January 20, 2025 to Tuesday, a long period of rain fell in several areas of Central Java, causing natural disasters, landslides and floods in several areas.
Several areas were affected by natural disasters, including floods in Grobogan and Demak provinces, as well as landslides in Pekalongan province.
As of Friday, January 24, 2025, the death toll from landslides in Petungkriyono, Pekalongan, has reached 24 and two victims are still missing.
