The 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships are being held in Belgrade, Serbia from 25 October to 6 November. Finally, actor Mark Wahlberg sent a message of support for the World Championships in a video played during the final moments of the Opening Ceremony.

Belgrade was picked to host the championships for the second time; the original 2021 contract with New Delhi was cancelled due to a disagreement between AIBA and the Boxing Federation of India over hosting fees

AIBA World Boxing Championships 2021 Preview

The history of boxing was then ran through the ages, featuring slow-motion re-enactments in on-stage performances, detailing its official start on January 6 1681.

The 2015 World Championships bronze-medallist Shiva Thapa (63.5kg), Govind Kumar Sahani (48kg), Varinder Singh (60kg), Nishant Dev (71kg), Sumit (75kg), Lakshya Chahar (86kg) and Narender (+92kg) are the other boxers of the 13-member Indian contingent who will compete at the 21st edition of the prestigious event which will go on till November 6.

AIBA World Boxing Championships 2021 Prize Money

For the first time in AIBA’s 75-year history, medal winners were awarded prize money; gold medallists earn $100,000, silver medallists $50,000, and bronze medallists $25,000. The overall prize fund was worth $2.6 million.
