The thrilling Ashes series between arch-rivals England and Australia is set to begin in a few days. Ashley Giles, managing director of the England Cricket Board (ECB), is hoping to get all-rounder Ben Stokes from the first Test of the series.
Stokes has not played a competitive cricket match since July 26. He took an indefinite break from cricket for mental health reasons. And last October, Stokes underwent finger surgery for the second time.
Stokes has not even played in a number of international series, including the T20 World Cup and the IPL. However, Stokes is returning to cricket with the Ashes. Naturally happy to have Stokes in the England camp. Giles is optimistic about starting the Ashes fight with the star all-rounder.
"I am optimistic and I always want to be confident, but we have to use Stokes carefully, as we handle the rest of the cricketers in the team without playing too much cricket. Once he is fit, it will be difficult to stop him. '
