Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde will join Barcelona and sign a five-year contract with the Catalans, according to Spanish media. The French international was wanted by Chelsea and Barcelona, but in the end, he chose to wear a Barca team, and Sevilla will receive 50 million euros plus 10 million in bonuses.
Last week it looked almost certain that the 23-year-old defender would move to Chelsea, but according to Catalan sports daily El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez had a personal conversation with Kounde and convinced him to come to the Nou Camp.
Kounde is currently still recovering from groin surgery last month, but is expected to be ready for the start of the new La Liga season.
Kounde spent three years at Sevilla after his transfer from Bordeaux in 2019, winning the Europa League with the team, while also making 11 appearances for the French national team.
