Bodycam shows ambush of California cops when rookie was shot dead

Chilling bodycam footage shows the moment a rookie cop in California was ambushed and shot dead — sparking an hours-long gun battle with her colleagues who were unable to save her, according to authorities.

The footage shows a male officer entering a house on a domestic violence call in Sacramento, telling the occupant he was “not in trouble” — then running back in terror amid a barrage of bullets.

Rookie Tara O’Sullivan, 26, one of four officers behind him, was killed after getting hit by “multiple rounds” in that initial volley of shots last Wednesday, according to police.

“Officer down! Officer down! High-powered rifle,” the male officer shouts on the radio after running for cover, with further shots ringing out.

The suspect, Abel Ramos, 45, allegedly had guns hidden in several rooms, using two assault rifles, a shotgun and a handgun in an ongoing gunfight with cops, police say.

“He used all four. These four weapons were placed strategically throughout the house,” police chief Daniel Hahn told a press conference, according to The Sacramento Bee.

“The officers were essentially ambushed.”

The gunfire was so heavy that officers were unable to reach O’Sullivan for 45 minutes, the chief said.

“It is clear by the suspect’s actions that he was intent on murdering additional officers and was taking action to do just that, repeatedly shooting at officers throughout this incident” he said, according to the report.

Officers finally used an armored BearCat to get close enough to rescue the fallen officer, racing her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Cops fired more than 100 rounds during an hours-long standoff, with the suspect firing at least 30 rounds in return before finally surrendering, the chief said.

“This was an ambush-style attack on Sacramento police officers that lasted for hours,” Hahn said, according to the Bee.

Ramos was charged Friday with murder, attempted murder and two counts of unlawful possession of an assault weapon. He was expected in court Monday afternoon.
