Canelo Alvarez confesses he shouldn't have fought Dmitri Bivol in 2022 'it still hurts'

Canelo Alvarez is everywhere at this time as he’s doing press rounds to promote the Canelo vs. Charlo fight that will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 30th.

Canelo Alvarez confessed he’s still hurt and going over the defeat he suffered against Dmitry Bivol back in May 2022, a fight he claims he should not have fought. Canelo opened up in an interview with Hugo Sanchez and said he still regrets having lost to the Russian.

Canelo claims he shouldn’t have fought as he was hurting from his ribs and right hand

“It hurt me a lot, it hurt me because I shouldn’t have lost, I’m simply a better fighter than him. I shouldn’t have fought.

“I wasn’t 100 percent physically speaking, my hand wasn’t working 100 percent, I couldn’t train 100 percent. A week before I broke a rib training and still as a fighter you say, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay, when you feel you can do it all,'” he said to the former soccer player’s talk show.

The problem for Canelo Alvarez is that for one reason or the other he and his team have not had the opportunity to recover completely and have the long-awaited rematch.

I shouldn’t have fought, I should have delayed that fight. That chip in my shoulder is always there, it hasn’t been taken out, it’s still there.”

We wanted to do the rematch and they start to think they deserve more, they start to make negotiations difficult. For one or other reason it didn’t happen and I went on my way, but the chip is always there,” added the Jalisco native.

Much has been said about the upcoming fight with Jermell Charlo and although Canelo is ahead in the odds against the Texas native, a defeat is always possible as Charlo has been training day and night for the fight.
