Champions League is returning in a different form in August

The whole world came to a standstill due to the outbreak of coronavirus. Like everything else in the long lockdown, all global sports were closed. Gradually normalcy began to return. Sports are returning to the field, but a lot has changed. Even after the return of club football, the game is being held in a field without spectators. Other rules have also changed.

The Champions League, the best event in club football in Europe this season, is returning to a new twist. The fate of this year’s Champions League will be decided by a ‘mini-tournament’ from August 12-23. The decision was announced in the official announcement of UEFA on Wednesday. The home and away format will no longer be available in the quarter-finals and semifinals. The 2019-20 Champions League will be held in one stadium at two stadiums in Lisbon, Portugal. The quarter-finals and semifinals will be played at Estadio do Sport Lisboa in Benfica and Estadio Jose Alvale at Sporting Club. The final will be on August 23.

The final of the tournament to be held in Lisbon, Portugal will be on August 23. It will start on August 7 and end on August 23. In other words, the tournament will end in 17 days. This was stated by UEFA Deputy General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti after a meeting of the executive board in a video conference on Wednesday.

The Champions League match was postponed last March due to coronavirus outbreak. After that, the organizers could not come to a decision even after many discussions. UEFA finally heard the word of hope on Wednesday. Like the top leagues in club football, the Champions League matches are more likely to be held in a spectator-free stadium.

The Champions League final was scheduled to take place on May 30, in Istanbul. According to the new schedule, all the matches are being shifted to the new venue. Four teams have already secured the quarter-finals of the event. The four teams are Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Leipzig, and Atalanta.

The other four teams are still undefeated. Because there are still four matches left in the last sixteen. However, the first leg match was held before the league was suspended. The return leg will be held on August 7 and 8. The remaining four matches will be played between Barcelona-Napoli, Manchester City-Real Madrid, Bayern Munich-Chelsea and Juventus-Olympic Lion. The venues of the matches have not been finalized yet.

The winning teams of these four matches will get tickets to the last eight. The eight-team Champions League will be held.
