Dillon Danis said that Conor McGregor left him with a lazy eye during their sparring sessions as the Irish MMA fighter prepared to face Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Danis, who competes in Bellator MMA, was brought in to train the UFC fighter in the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu ahead of his re-match against Nate Diaz.
Danis obviously impressed McGregor, who brought him back for his training camp against Khabib.
When asked by Sean O’Malley why he has a lazy eye, he revealed the truth.
“Fun fact: In the lead-up to UFC 229, while doing hard sparring sessions with Conor for the Khabib fight, I broke my zygomatic arch and orbital bone,” Danis said. “So I think I’m just stuck like this.”
The Bellator competitor would be fined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his role in aggravating Khabib, earning a 7500 dollar fine and a seven month suspension during a post-fight brawl.
The now-retired Dagestan fighter attempted to climb out of the cage to get to Danis after McGregor‘s camp attacked Khabib‘s religion, nation and tried to physically intimidate his team.
Danis vs Logan Paul
Danis is set to take on the YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul on the undercard of KSI vs Tommy Fury.
Paul began his fighting career in 2018 and has since branched out to wrestling, but will return to the ring to face the MMA fighter.
Danis‘ pre-fight talk has largely concerned Paul‘s fiancee, but a hilarious moment arrived at their face-off when Danis couldn’t find any words to say to Paul in person, mumbling and stammering through the trash talk.
Their fight is scheduled to take place on October 14th in England.
Khabib was known for his devastating grappling skill and used it to force McGregor to submit.
Despite all of the talk, the Irishman didn’t have what it took when the pair came face-to-face in the Octagon.
Following the largest UFC pay-per-view event in history, McGregor would go on to fight three more people.
He defeated Donald Cerrone by TKO in 2020 but then would lose his final two fights against Dustin Poirier.
Poirier knocked McGregor out in the second round of their fight and in the next fight emerged victorious once again.
In the first round, the Irish fighter fell and broke his leg. He had already been struck several times and taken to the ground and pounded.
It was his last fight to date, in July 2021 as the 35-year-old focuses on his business career.
