Football's Samson, Carter Tabbed NEC Weekly Award Winners

After electrifying efforts Saturday in the Merrimack College football team's win over Wagner, Rodney Samson and Jacari Carter earned NEC weekly awards, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Samson was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week, while Carter earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Samson was a force all day on the field as he racked up an impressive 23 total tackles including 14 solo tackles and two for a loss. This was a career best for Samson and was only one short of  the school record for most tackles in a single game. He now leads the team with 63 tackles on the season with seven tackles for a loss. He also has 34 tackles combined in the past two games after he had 11 the week before against Central Connecticut.

Carter fooled everyone in the building on Saturday when he seemed to prepare for a fair catch, before burning Wagner for a 76-yard return to the house. It was one of the many highlight reel plays Carter has produced so far this season as he has been one of the Warriors most electric players. He now has 256 return yards on 16 punt return attempts to go along with his 71 receptions.

The Warriors have their penultimate game of the 2021 season Saturday in Loretto, Pa. against Saint Francis. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 pm.
