All 16 Team participating nations, through the confirmation of their respective national associations, had to submit a "Long List" no later than two weeks before the tournament, and a final roster by the Passport Control meeting prior to the start of the tournament.

2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Schedule and Result
The 16 teams are split into two round-robin groups of eight, Group A and Group B. After each team has played the other seven in their group, the top four teams from each group progress to the quarter-finals.
