Irish Simi Singh faces life-threatening liver condition, set for transplant in India | The Express Tribune

Ireland all-rounder Simi Singh is in critical condition due to acute liver failure and urgently needs a transplant.

Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom, who confirmed the situation, described it as “shocking” to learn that 37-year-old Singh was seriously ill, and sent him “best wishes and prayers… as he takes on this new fight”.

After experiencing health issues in Ireland, Singh traveled back to India earlier this summer for treatment.

The Indian Publication has reported that Singh is in the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon awaiting a transplant and that his wife Agamdeep will donate part of her liver.

“The transplant is likely to be performed very soon, and the doctors are positive that the outcome will be in Simi’s favour and will give him a new lease of life,” the cricketer’s father-in-law Parvinder Singh told the Indian Publication.

Deutrom called Singh “a key player in Irish cricket, whether at the international, provincial, or club levels.”

“His determination and ambition to succeed have been evident,” Deutrom continued.

“We now hope that his same determination will help him overcome his current situation. Stay strong, Simi; we are all supporting you.”

Singh has represented Ireland in 35 One Day Internationals and has made 53 T20 appearances, including in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cup tournaments.
