Matteo Berrettini's Wimbledon mission ended before it could begin. The Italian player withdrew from the event due to coronavirus.
He was scheduled to face Chile's Christian Garin in the first round on Tuesday. A few hours before the match, Berrettini announced through social media that he was attacked by Covid-19.
Berretini's dream of winning his first Grand Slam was shattered when he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final at Wimbledon in 2021.
Berrettini is the second player to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon after being positive for Covid-19. Croatia's Marin Silic dropped out on Monday for the same reason.
Despite having a great rhythm, Berrettini was very disappointed not to be able to play in this tournament.
"I do not know the language to describe the extreme frustration I feel. The dream is over for this year, but I will come back stronger. ”
