Men's Alpine Finishes 2022: USCSA National Championships

The Castleton University men's elevated ski group closed the 2022 season with the Dual Slalom at the USCSA National Championships on Saturday, completing third in the occasion.

Castleton earned a first-round bye before beating UConn in the second round, 3-2. The Spartans then bested Clarkson 4-1 in the quarterfinals before falling 5-0 to Sierra Nevada University in the semifinals. Castleton bounced back with a 4-1 win in the third-place matchup with Cornell to earn a spot on the podium thanks to the team of Filippo Collini, Christopher Kerven, Kevin McDonough, Bennett Coseo and Lorenzo Mencaccini.

As a team, Castleton finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with Northern Michigan University and Clarkson University. The Spartans placed fifth in both the slalom and the giant slalom on the week.

The dual slalom marked the final day of competition, with the USCSA handing out final All-America accolades and Scholar All-America accolades at the closing ceremonies. Mencaccini earned First Team All-America honors across the board, earning the award for slalom, giant slalom and combined. Kerven earned a spot on the All-America Second Team for the combined standings. Mencaccini, Kerven, Collini and McDonough were all named Scholar All-Americans.

The Spartans also finished second in the USCSA President's Award standings, awarded to the top combined Nordic and Alpine programs annually. The Castleton men's Nordic team finished sixth overall.
