Padres-Dodgers NLDS Game 2 delayed after fans throw objects onto field

Objects thrown onto the field by fans at Dodger Stadium led to a roughly 12-minute delay Sunday during a heated playoff game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.

With San Diego leading 4-1 entering the seventh inning of Game 2 of the National League Division Series, two baseballs were thrown from the grandstands toward San Diego left fielder Jurickson Profar. Profar had interacted with fans earlier in the game near the fence after he caught a potential home run from Los Angeles’ Mookie Betts but at first made it seem as though he had not, only to reveal the ball.

After the balls were thrown near Profar, he quickly approached umpires along with San Diego’s manager, Mike Shildt, to complain.

Security officers lined the field as trash was thrown toward the San Diego bullpen, near Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. The public-address announcer urged fans not to throw more objects.

San Diego walked away with a series-tying 10-2 win to even the series 1-1.
