Red Bull admits Checo Perez's RB19's Achilles' heel

The Singapore Grand Prix marked the end of Red Bull’s run of 14 consecutive wins in the 2023 Formula 1 season, which was cut short by Carlos Sainz.

However, the energy drinks team were aware that this streak would one day come to an end, so they are confident that they will remain competitive, as they have been all year.

The next stop will be the Japanese Grand Prix, a circuit (Suzuka) that can suit Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez‘s RB19, a car that is well ahead of its competitors.

“It’s been a very competitive car since the start of the season, I think that’s the big difference to the previous Red Bulls we’ve had,” said Pierre Wache in an interview with GP Fans.

What is Red Bull’s weakness?

Red Bull‘s Technical Director assessed whether it is the most dominant car in F1 history.

“Is it the best ever? I don’t know. It’s very difficult to judge, but we started the season very strong compared to other Red Bull cars”.

And despite being a cut above the other cars, the RB19 does have weaknesses, which were on display on Saturday at the Marina Bay track.

“I think it’s obvious that on low-speed tracks we’re not the best in qualifying. That’s where we are limited compared to the others, and, compared to what we showed in the race, that can hurt our overall performance.”

Against this backdrop, Pierre Wache confessed that Red Bull‘s heel is demonstrated on circuits with a lot of corners.

“For example, if you don’t get pole position in Monaco, it’s quite difficult to win the race. That’s clearly something we have to work on for next year,” he concluded.
