Sri Lanka have been whitewashed 3-0 in the T20 series against South Africa on the day of the retirement of legendary fast bowler Lasith Malinga. Dasun Shanakar lost by 10 wickets in the last T20 of the series in Colombo. Sri Lanka lost the series with one match in hand.
The team would not have had to be whitewashed if they had won last Tuesday's (September 14) match. But the Sri Lankan batsmen could not do much in the controlled bowling of the South African bowlers. After losing five wickets for 60 runs, the team finally stopped at 120 runs losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-opener Kushal Perera played the highest innings of 39 runs.
The two Proteas openers did not have to face any difficulty in batting for a short run. Both of them have seen half a century. Won the match with 32 balls in hand.
Meanwhile, Malinga, who was not with the team, retired from international cricket last Tuesday. At the age of 36, he said goodbye to all forms of cricket. ODIs, Tests have already left. Although he did not retire from T20, Malinga did not play any more matches after March last year.
